Which exam is better SBI PO Exam or IBPS PO Exam?

Banking job is the most dreamed career option for any graduate. SBI PO and IBPS PO exams are two major competitive exams to acquire these valued and esteemed jobs. Generally speaking, SBI PO exam is slightly difficult than IBPS PO exam. SBI PO exam is more subjective in nature and is considered to be the largest bank exam. Therefore, SBI PO exam is more difficult to crack for any aspirant.

To refresh our knowledge, let us know about IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). It is a recruitment body which recruits deserving candidates to public sector banks in India. Every year, IBPS conducts IBPS PO exam to recruit PO’s for 23 public sectors in India, except the State Bank of India (SBI). On contrary, SBI is a banking branch in itself and conducts SBI PO every year. SBI PO exam is held to fill the vacancies in various branches of the SBI across India and associate banks of the SBI. 

If we compare IBPS PO and SBI PO, we will find that there are many differences between them. After learning about them, it will be easier for applicant to decide which one is a better future prospect for him.

 Let us discuss these differences, and they are as follows:-
Designation-

SBI PO: 
In SBI banks, the Probationary Officer is designated as Junior Management Grade-1 Officer for 2 years of training/probation period.

IBPS PO: 
The candidates who get selected to join IBPS Banks are designated as Officer Scale-1 or Assistant Manager for 2 years of probation period.
         
Salary - The revised basic pay of PO is –

23700 – (980 x 7) – 30560 – (1145 x 2) – 32850 – (1310 x 7) – 42020
Here, Rs. 23700 is the revised basic pay of Bank PO as applicable on 1st January 2016. Thus the new applicant in a Bank as PO is liable to get Rs. 23,700 as basic pay.

The Bank PO will get and annual increment of Rs 980 and it will be applicable for a period of 7 years.

Note: Probationary Officers in SBI is paid 4 extra Increments at the time of joining.

As per the HRA offered by banks, you can take leased accommodation from the banks’ side. (Ranges may vary from INR 10,000 to INR 29,000 per month).
      
Exam Pattern - IBPS PO Mains Exam has gone through several changes.

The changes are as follows:-
  • Introduction of Descriptive Paper:
IBPS has understood the importance of testing applicant’s writing skills. Like SBI PO 2017, IBPS has introduced Descriptive Paper in its Mains Examination where they can judge applicant’s writing skills. This Descriptive Paper carries 25 marks and has to be completed in a time span of 30minutes. In this paper, a candidate will be given to write an essay and a letter.
  • The overall time allotted for each section has also been changed.
There will be no separate paper conducted for Computer Applications. The Reasoning Section has been teamed up with Computer Aptitude Section and the entire section carries 45 questions. The section will be of 60 marks. 
         
Perks Offered:Leased Rental Accommodation

Under HRA policies, the Probationary Officers are given the benefits of the housing facilities by the banks. Under this policy, the banks don’t provide any cash payment but transfer the necessary fund for accommodation to the House Owner.

IBPS banks: For IBPS banks PO’s, official Bank Accommodation/Bank Quarter are provided as the leased accommodation.

In SBI: For SBI PO’s, leased accommodation range from INR 8,000/- in ‘C’ category Centers to INR 29,500/- in Mumbai Centre.
          
Perks Offered: Travel Allowances

In SBI:  While travelling various places within India, SBI PO’s can avail travelling concessions. In addition to this, the employees working with banks can enjoy the pleasure and luxuries of the bank guest houses available at various places across India.

In IBPS Banks:  The IBPS bank employees can own their own vehicles rather than getting allowances for petrol bills. They can also avail the luxury of staying at Bank’s Guest Houses, while visiting various places across India.
         
Medical Benefits

In SBI: SBI offers 100% Medical Facilities to the employees and offers 75% to their family members.

In IBPS Banks: The employees working within IBPS Banks are paid an amount of INR 8000 per annum for their Medical Aid facility.

While recruiting Probationary Officers, IBPS PO exam comprises of Personal Interview (100 marks), while SBI selection round has two more phases and they are Group Discussion (20 marks) and Personal Interview (30 marks).

As we have already said that Banking Jobs are the most valued and so it’s predictable that both these exams will be highly competitive in nature.

The aspirants should be prepared to face the most deadly challenges in these competitive exams. It will be a test of knowledge, general awareness, analytical abilities, writing skills, and proper time management. It’s all up to aspirant’s choice to make their decision of choosing a better option between IBPS PO exam and SBI PO exam.
